Earlier this spring I made a promise to myself to start using my sketchbook more frequently again. Here are some of the results!
Making small, instant drawings in a sketchbook is something I’ve always loved doing. While being cosy and relaxing activity on a lazy day, it also also gives me an opportunity to casually explore and develop various ideas and styles. If nothing else, sketchbooking helps to keep the creative flow running in between projects or during holidays. I find that I never run out of ideas or suffer from massive art blocks if just keep on creating something – anything – on a regular basis.
A pocket size sketchbook and a few pens are easy to carry with you so you can draw wherever or whenever an inspiration pops up. ?
And the photography nerd in me also loves to capture the drawings against different staged settings and natural backgrounds that accentuate and frame the artwork. For some reason the combination of simple drawings with the surroundings (even relatively mundane ones) seem to convey more enchanting stories than either of them separately – I enjoy the dialogue between them. I guess it’s about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, as Aristotle put it.
